Grade Calculation Formula:
Final Grade = (Current Grade × Current Weight) + (Final Exam Score × Final Weight)
Required Score = (Desired Grade - Current Grade × Current Weight) ÷ Final Weight
History of Academic Grading
The modern grading system evolved from 18th-century European universities. Yale University was among the first American institutions to use numerical grades in 1785. The familiar A-F letter grade system was introduced at Mount Holyoke College in 1897 and became widely adopted throughout the 20th century.
